Lauren Oliver’s Book Broken Things is about two friends who come together because after their best friend Summer Mark died five years ago, a lot of strange things happened. Everything from a fantasy book that the 3 friends wrote together is weirdly coming true. Brynn and Mia were brought together on the anniversary of their friend Summer Mark's death. Mia and Brynn have to go back to where it all started five years ago, in the woods where Summer was murdered. This book shows how after the death of Summer, Mia and Brynn put their differences aside to figure out why events from their fantasy novel come to life in the real world.
Throughout the story, the book jumps back and forth between Brynn and Mia. Telling how their lives have changed after the death of Summer. This book does like to jump back and forth between different time periods, different scenes, and different people. It is sometimes hard to follow at what point or time you are reading at that moment, but you do start to recognize what is going on later in the part or chapter. The Author likes to show how a person changes throughout the story which helps us understand the book/character better.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It had a mixture of adventure, suspicion, and a little horror. It describes what the three best friends were going through and what Brynn and Mia’s motive was for killing Summer. After killing Summer all of the character's lives changed I think that that gave it a more interesting story a plot. Understanding the characters and why people thought that they murdered Summer was also a good thing that I had to do when reading the book to understand it more. Thinking about how Mia and Brynn were both somewhat jealous of Summer because she had pretty hair and was one of the popular people, but also they had crushes on her. This made the book more interesting and more intriguing to read.
